DSNS to build Sigma-class frigate for Indonesian Navy

NETHERLANDS (BNS): The Ministry of Defence of Indonesia and Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding (DSNS) has signed a contract for the construction of a Sigma 10514 guided missile frigate, Perusak Kawal Rudal (PKR).

Under the contract, DSNS will engineer, build and deliver PKR as a part of the Indonesian Navy's TNI AL plans to modernise its fleet and extend its patrol capabilities.

The PKR will be built for the Indonesian Navy, TNI AL, and is to be delivered in 2016, according to a statement by DSNS.

The ship will be built according to the successful SIGMA modular building strategy, as a sequel to the earlier built four SIGMA Corvettes for TNI AL.

The 14m-wide new Sigma PKR 10514 frigate will have a displacement capacity of 2400 tonnes and features extensive air, surface and sub-surface surveillance capabilities and torpedo systems for anti-submarine warfare (AWS).

It will also feature guided missile systems and gun systems for anti-air warfare and anti-surface warfare (ASW), active and passive electronic warfare systems, as well as Tacticos combat management system.

An additional feature of the ship includes a combined diesel and electric (CODOE) propulsion system; the vessel is capable of carrying a crew of 120, as well as an organic helicopter.

The main missions and tasks of the SIGMA PKR 10514 will be in the domains of naval warfare as well as Maritime Security missions and tasks. Also, the ship may be used for humanitarian support tasks, the report added.
