Chinese aircraft carrier completes second sea trials

DALIAN (BNS): China's first aircraft carrier Varyag has returned to the port of Dalian, after completing the second phase of sea trials, a media report said.

According to Arms-Tass, the second sea-trials of the former 'Varyag' which took place from November 29th to December 11th were completed in the Yellow Sea, Dalian.

During the trials, Chinese military aircraft J-15 fighters have conducted several low-altitude carrier flights from the aircraft carrier.

The first sea trials of the aircraft carrier was made from 10th to 14th August 2011. Earlier it was reported that former "Varyag" would be used in the Chinese Navy primarily as a base for training pilots and carrier-based aircraft maintenance personnel.

The country plans to deploy the warship in the resource-rich South China Sea by 2012.
