Chinese Navy commissions new missile destroyer

BEIJING (BNS): The People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) of China has commissioned a new Type 052C (Luyang II class) guided missile destroyer into its East China Sea fleet on Thursday, according to media reports.

The warship, named Zhengzhou and bearing hull number 151, has a length of 155 meters and width of 17 meters. It has a displacement of more than 6,000 tons, the People's Daily reported.

The warship belongs to the new generation of Chinese-made guided missile destroyers. Equipped with Chinese-made "new weapons," it has strong capacity for long-distance warning and surveillance and regional air defence, the official Xinuha news agency said.
