China shrugs off reports on setting up radar station in Ladakh

BEIJING (PTI): China has shrugged off reports that it has set up a radar station in Ladakh reportedly to monitor movement of Indian Air Force planes, with a senior official saying he was "not aware of specifics".

"I am not aware of the specifics," Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei told reporters in Beijing Wednesday when asked about China establishing a station in Ladakh, reportedly to monitor the movement of Indian planes at the Daulat Beg Oldi airstrip where Indian Air Force landed its C-130J Super Hercules transport plane.

"But I want to point out that China is committed to safeguarding peace and tranquility in the border areas together with Indian sides pending final settlement," Hong said.

"Both parties should make joint efforts to maintain the current situation and we should make joint efforts to find a solution mutually acceptable to both sides," he said.
