China, Britain to boost defence cooperation

BEIJING (BNS): China will try to boost defence cooperation with Britain, Chinese Defence Minister said on Tuesday.

Chinese Defence Minister Liang Guanglie met Mark Stanhope, Chief of the Naval Staff of Britain, during a meeting on Wednesday and recalled the sound development of bilateral military ties in recent years, including frequent visits by high-level officials, strategic consultations and cooperative training programmes, according to Chinese media reports.

The Defence Minister also praised Sino-British relations in economics, trade, education and culture.

"I hope that both sides will continue to promote the steady development of our comprehensive strategic partnership," Xinhua quoted Defence Minister as saying.

Both countries are seeking to develop mutual understanding in various fields, it said.
