CCS nod to deals likely to be signed with Russia

NEW DELHI (PTI): On the eve of his visit to Russia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) which is understood to have cleared at least two deals that are likely to be signed during the trip.

Russia and India will jointly manufacture 200 Kamov-226T helicopters in what is seen as the first big step for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Make in India' push in the defence sector.

India and Russia are expected to expand the strategic ties with a particular focus on nuclear energy, hydrocarbons, defence and trade.

Earlier, Defence Ministry sources said that India is also looking at the possibility of leasing a second nuclear submarine from Russia.

Last week, Defence Ministry's top acquisition council had cleared the purchase of Russian S-400 Triumf air defence missile systems at an estimated cost of Rs 40,000 crore.
