F-15K Slam Eagle of the ROK Air Force.
SEOUL (BNS): The ROK (Republic Of Korea) Air Force has received its first batch of F-15K strike fighters from Boeing under the second phase F-X fighter acquisition programme.
The F-15K strike fighter which is the newest variant of the combat-proven F-15E arrived at the 11th Fighter Wing based in Daegu on Wednesday, according to a news report by The Korea Herald.
"The F-15K fighter aircraft departed from Saint Louis on Aug. 31 and received aerial refueling support from a KC-10 tanker of the US Air Force while flying over the Pacific," said officials as per the report.
The contract was awarded by the South Korea on April 2002 for the procurement of 40 F-15Ks and in April 2008, the South Korea awarded Boeing a contract for a second lot of F-15K’s to fill its Next Fighter II requirement.
The F-15K strike fighter is equipped with the latest technological upgrades, it is more lethal, survivable, and maintainable than its predecessor. The aircraft is capable of long-range precision strike missions without escort, day or night, in any weather.
It is said to be a true multi-role aircraft that operates in the air-to-air, air-to-ground, and air-to-sea role.
