ST. LOUIS (BNS): Boeing has received a $5.297 billion contract from the US Navy to provide 124 F/A-18E/F Super Hornet and EA-18G Growler fighter aircraft.

Under the multi-year contract, Boeing will deliver 66 Super Hornets and 58 Growlers – the electronic attack variants of the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet to the Navy between 2012 and 2015.

This is the third contract awarded to Boeing to supply the F/A-18E/F Super Hornets which are the US Navy’s frontline fighter aircraft and deployed in 11 of its aircraft carriers.

Boeing has already delivered 210 Super Hornets to the US Navy in the fiscal 2000-2004 and delivery of another 257 Super Hornets continue through 2011 under the previous two contracts awarded by the Navy.

The EA-18G Growler is the US’ newest combat aircraft capable of conducting advanced airborne electronic attack (AEA) missions to support Navy and joint force requirements.

The EA-18G is scheduled for its first combat deployment later this year, Boeing said.
