MUMBAI (PTI): Vice Admiral Sanjeev Bhasin today took charge as Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command from Vice Admiral J S Bedi.
Bhasin, an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, was commissioned into the executive branch of the Indian Navy in January 1972 and specialised in navigation and aircraft direction.
He has been the commanding officer of INS Khukri, INS Mumbai and INS Ranjit.
As Rear Admiral he has served as the Chief of Staff of Western Naval Command and was Fleet Commander of the Eastern Fleet.
Prior to taking up command of the Western Naval Command, Bhasin was Officer on Special Duties to the Chief of Naval Staff at Delhi.
At the ceremonial parade, Vice Admiral Bedi said he had seen the Indian Navy become a powerful navy and the real strength of the Navy lay in its manpower.
Bedi retired today after serving 40 years in the navy.
