LANGKAWI, MALAYSIA (BNS): Bangladesh is planning to purchase 24 Yakovlev Yak-130 jet trainers on $1 billion credit from Russia, Russia's state arms exporter Rosoboronexport said on Wednesday.

"The purchase of Yak-130 warplanes is a very significant subject of negotiations between Russia and Bangladesh," Rosoboronexport Deputy Chief Viktor Komardin was quoted as saying by RIA Novosti at LIMA 2013 in Malaysia.

He added that negotiations on Yak-130s are due to begin later this spring.

The Yakovlev Yak-130 is a subsonic two-seat advanced jet trainer/light attack aircraft or lead-in fighter trainer with an extended range of about 1,250 miles (2,000 kilometers) and a maximum speed of 600 mp/h (1,060 km/h) in level flight.

Yak-130 Combat Trainer, developed by the Yakovlev Design Bureau - an Irkut Corporation company, has been chosen as the main aircraft for basic and advanced training of Russian Air Force pilots.
