ST. PETERSBURG (BNS): The BRAHMOS supersonic cruise missile will continue to be flight tested due to the need for verification of the rocket material which will now be made from Indian materials and components, said Deputy Director General, "Machine Building NPO" Alexander Maksichev.
Russian news agency Arms Tass quoting Maksichev said, "To date, all 24 flight tests of Brahmos missile has confirmed the correctness of the chosen concept, reliability, high combat efficiency and operational capabilities and readiness for mass production of these missiles.”
“All this has come to the stage of commercial implementation of the project to ensure the production and assembly of missiles as in Russia and in India," he added.
Participating at the 5th International Maritime Defense Show IMDS-2011, he said the company, BrahMos Aerospace, has fulfilled the obligation to deliver BRAHMOS missiles for three Indian frigates of Project 11356, under construction in Kaliningrad.
Each missile system in the ship includes an 8-missile cell in vertical launcher mode and automatic weapons control system. On the first ship that passes the test mooring, a complex "BRAHMOS" is already installed. Installation Systems of BRAHMOS in the second and third frigates will be made in accordance with the schedule of their construction, he said.
