BAE receives $21 mln follow-on order for new armour kits

Armored Security Vehicles (ASV).

CINCINNATI (BNS): BAE Systems has received a $21 million extended contract from Textron Marine and Land Systems (TM&LS) to build and deliver more than 420 armour protection kits for Armored Security Vehicles (ASV).

The BAE Systems’ appliqué armour panels will be installed at TM&LS after which the armoured ASVs will be delivered to the US Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM).

The recent order is a follow-on contract of the $10.5 million order for ASV armour panels given to BAE Systems in March. The company has already produced more than 2500 armour kits for the highly manoeuvrable, four-wheel drive ASV.

“It’s reassuring to know that our ASV armour kits will continue to play a vital role in the protection of these mission critical vehicles which help save the lives of US troops deployed in Afghanistan and Iraq," Don Dutton, Vice President of Platform Survivability for BAE Systems, said.

Under the agreement, the company will produce armour panels for the M1117 ASV. The company is also building armour kits for the M1200 Armored Knight, which is an ASV variant equipped with a laser guided sensor package, with a precise laser targeting of ground and air delivered munitions.

The company will manufacture the vehicles at its work center in Phoenix, Arizona. The final deliveries are expected to be completed by spring 2011.
