NASHUA (BNS): BAE Systems has received a $19.74 million contract from US (DoD) for developing fixed wing Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System II for the AV-8B and A-10 aircraft to support a joint capability technology demonstration.
The contract is scheduled to be completed in May 2013 at the BAE Systems Electronic Solutions segment in Nashua, the US DoD announced Thursday.
The Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) is developed to fill the gap between the existing unguided 2.75"/70mm Hydra-70 Rocket System and the HELLFIRE anti-tank missile.
Precision rockets can carry a wide variety of munitions, from dispersed bomblets to small explosive warheads for use against enemy infantry, armored personnel carriers, light vehicles, and unfortified buildings.
