Azerbaijan MDI expands joint production of armoured vehicles

ISTANBUL (BNS): The Paramount Group of South Africa will produce 60 new mine protected vehicles for Azerbaijan in Baku.

The Azerbaijan Ministry of Defence Industries (MDI) has extended the Joint Production Agreement with the Paramount group for the production of the vehicles.

The contract extension will comprise with 30 Marauder and 30 Matador IED and mine-protected vehicles, the Azerbaijan MDI announced at IDEF.

"Both Matador and Marauder are highly flexible and advanced IED-protected vehicles that ideally meet the requirements of our armed forces ,” Honourable Minister of Defence Industry of Azerbaijan, Mr Yaver Jamalov, said.

In 2009, the company had received a joint production agreement set up with the nation for the production of an initial 30 vehicles (15 Matadors and 15 Marauders) for the Azerbaijan MDI.

The deliveries of the extended vehicle will be completed by late 2012.
