CALIFORNIA (BNS): Team Vandenberg launched an Atlas V from Space Launch Complex-3 here at Vandenberg Air Force Base on April 14 at 9:24 p.m. PDT.
It was the fourth Atlas V processed at Vandenberg and the 605th overall Atlas mission in US history.
"The wind cooperated with us this evening enabling us to launch without compromising public safety," Col. Richard Boltz, 30th Space Wing commander, was quoted as saying in the press release.
"Without a doubt, every launch is a major feat, and I'm extremely proud of Team Vandenberg for yet another job well done," he added.
The rocket carried a national security payload for the National Reconnaissance Office. No additional details have been released about the purpose of the payload.
Vandenberg's next launch is a Delta II scheduled for June 9.
