Army's Sindhu Surdarshan exercise concludes in Jaisalmer

JAISALMER (PTI): The Indian Army's week-day military exercise Sindhu Sudarshan concluded on Wednesday in the desert sector of Jaisalmer.

During the drill that started on November 28, a number of vital concepts in deserts were validated to further streamline the Army's operational plans on the western front, defence spokesperson Col Sombit Ghosh said.

The integrated exercise involved the use of mechanised forces, infantry, artillery and other force multipliers like drones and electronic warfare systems.

Army's indigenous armed advanced light helicopters, Rudra, were also employed alongside the Indian Air Force helicopters in a fully integrated manner, the officer said.

Southern Army commander Lt Gen S K Saini reviewed the exercise on Monday and Tuesday and he was briefed by Sudarshan Chakra corps commander Lt Gen Yogendra Dimri.

Various battles groups participating in the exercise underwent extensive training to validate their operational plans.

With emphasis on surveillance and network centricity, a multitude of aerial and land-based sensors were fielded to gain a comprehensive tactical picture to the commanders.

Newly-inducted K-9 Vajra weapon system and other new generation force multipliers were also validated for operations in the deserts. Radio trunk system and satellite-based communication were also fielded during the exercise.
