NEW DELHI (PTI): Top Army commanders met here on Monday to discuss threadbare operational issues, modernisation programme, and review the formation of Mountain Strike Corps and developmental activities along the border with China.
The five-day Army Commanders' Conference, which began here on Monday, will also take into account the tensions along the LoC and increased militancy activities in Jammu and Kashmir.
It is being attended by the Army Commanders of all the Commands, Principal Staff Officers (PSOs) and selected officers of the Army HQ.
The conference commenced with the interaction of the Army Commanders with their chief Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag, followed by the opening address.
Gen Suhag gave his assessment of the global, regional and internal security environment including emerging trends which impact nation's military security.
He expressed his satisfaction with the progress of military capability enhancement in the identified key areas of Army Aviation, Air Defence, Infantry Anti-tank capabilities specially third generation ATGMs, tanks and BMP upgradations, as well as refurbishment of ammunition stocks.
He also reviewed the progress of raising of Mountain Strike Corps and enhancement of operational synergy with other services.
Gen Suhag laid stress on necessity of promoting in-house innovations, fool-proof cyber security. He also emphasised adequate training of sportspersons to ensure maximum medals in Olympics 2016.
