SAO PAULO, BRAZIL (BNS): Argentina has proposed to create a South American space agency with support from Brazil.
Argentine Defence Minister Arturo Puricelli has put forth the proposal during a defence seminar in the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo this week.
“It would be vital for our region to have a South American Space Agency, which can be achieved by adding all our technological know-how and forces,” Puricelli was quoted as saying by the MercoPress news agency.
“The idea of a space agency is not an imitation of Europe but rather for our defence, we will have much more to defend and control from space”, the minister added.
The proposal has been welcomed by Brazil, the report said.
