All-women defence team conducts adventure patrolling in Arunachal

ITANAGAR (PTI): A joint all-women team comprising members of the Army, the Assam Rifles and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police has conducted adventure patrolling in Arunachal Pradesh, a defence spokesperson has said.

The 18-member squad became the maiden all-women team to accomplish adventure patrolling in the Himalayas of the northeastern state, Kohima-based defence spokesman Col Chiranjit Konwer said in a statement on Friday.

"The fully kitted and self-sustained patrol led by the Indian Army woman officers was launched on August 10 last from Kibithu in remote Anjaw district of the state," he said.

Before concluding the patrol on the Independence Day on Thursday, the team went through a difficult terrain crisscrossing streams and dense forests where their navigation skill was tested.

The women underwent training encompassing physical conditioning exercises, basic lessons on mountaineering, jungle survival and motivation before the programme, he said.
