MOSCOW (BNS): Russia’s MiG Corporation has successfully tested four MiG-29 combat aircrafts, due to be delivered to India by mid-October, onboard the Russian Navy’s Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier.

“During the tests on September 28-29, the MiG-29K and MiG-29KUB fighters conducted several take offs and landings on the deck of the (Admiral Kuznetsov) aircraft carrier in the Barents Sea,” RIA Novosti reported on Wednesday, citing a statement issued by the company.

The Admiral Gorshkov aircraft carrier deal signed between India and Russia in 2004 also included the purchase of MiG-29s from the Russian firm.

As per the deal, MiG Corporation will supply 12 single-seater MiG-29Ks and four MiG-29KUBs to Indian Navy in flyaway condition.

The two MiG-29Ks and two MiG-29KUBs were officially transferred to India earlier this year after being inspected by Indian technical experts.
The fighter aircrafts were also used in a five-month flight training course for Indian pilots, the report said.

The MiG-29K and MiG-29KUB aircraft are fourth generation multi-role combat aircrafts intended for air-defense missions of naval forces, air superiority gaining, sea and ground targets destruction with high precision guided weapons capable to operate day and night in all weather conditions.
