ATI 425(R)-MIL Alloy.
PARIS (BNS): Allegheny Technologies Incorporated (ATI) Monday unveiled its latest titanium alloy for defence applications at Eurosatory 2010 in Paris, France.
ATI believes that ATI 425(R)-MIL Alloy titanium plate and sheet will be especially well-suited for defence applications, mainly for vehicle armour and structural and suspension components for land-based vehicles, according to the company news release.
ATI 425(R)-MIL titanium has tensile strength comparable to 6-4 titanium, the most common titanium alloy, with the added benefit of higher ductility.
ATI 425(R)-MIL is a high strength, titanium alloy available in a variety of product forms, including ballistic grade plate and coldrolled coil or sheet. ATI 425(R)-MIL Alloy was originally developed for ballistic armour applications and exceeds both the ballistic requirements and strength requirements of MIL-DTL-46077 titanium armour plate. ATI 425(R)-MIL Alloy is characterised as a class 4 armour plate by MIL-DTL-46077.
It is available in a variety of titanium product forms, including; sheet, plate, Precision Rolled Strip and foil, seamless tube, shapes and rectangles, ingot, castings and forgings.
ATI 425(R)-MIL Alloy thus provides a new range of design solutions to Defense OEMs based on its enhanced performance characteristics, including strength and formability.
This new titanium alloy system offers customers a new set of design solutions for improving manufacturability and reducing weight while maintaining survivability in a wide range of land, sea and air defence applications.
