On 7th August 2026, the steel-cutting ceremony of Indonesia’s first Scorpene submarine was held at PT PAL shipyard in Surabaya, marking the start of the construction phase of the Scorpene for the Republic of Indonesia (SRI) programme.
Indonesia's state-owned Company, PT Pal, will built two Scorpene submarines through a comprehensive transfer of capacity from Naval Group.
PT PAL will be responsible for hull construction, equipment integration, testing, final assembly and delivery of the submarines to the Indonesian Navy. The Naval Group will provide the submarine design and engineering support, the Naval Group said.
The SRI programme while strengthening Indonesia’s sovereignty at sea will reinforce PT PAL's commitment to becoming a world-class naval shipbuilder capable of delivering advanced defence platforms supporting national strategic autonomy.
