Indian envoy, Canadian defence minister discuss defence ties

India-Canada ties have improved since Prime Minister Mark Carney's election victory last year, with both countries agreeing to revive several mechanisms to advance relations in a range of areas.

Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Patnaik and Canadian Minister of National Defence David McGuinty have discussed ways to expand bilateral defence ties during a meeting, the Indian mission said on Tuesday.

India-Canada ties have improved since Prime Minister Mark Carney's election victory last year, with both countries agreeing to revive several mechanisms to advance relations in a range of areas.

During their meeting, Patnaik and McGuinty discussed strengthening maritime cooperation, advancing defence capacity-building and training, the Indian High Commission in Canada said in a post on X.

Discussions also focused on "deepening India-Canada defence ties to advance shared commitment of promoting peace, stability, and stronger bilateral engagement," the post said.
