The Varshavyanka-class (Project 636.3) submarines were laid down in St. Petersburg on the eve of Russian Navy Day, Russian news agency TASS quoting the Press office said.

The Project 636.3 submarines regarded as one of the most lethal and noiseless submarines of the Russian Navy is equipped with advanced radars, communication systems, sonars, 533mm torpedo tubes and Kalibr cruise missiles.

The Russian Black Sea Fleet has received six Project 636.3 diesel-electric submarines built by the Admiralty Wharves Shipyard in the last few years.

In May and June 2017, the Project 636.3 submarine Krasnodar successfully launched Kalibr cruise missiles from the Mediterranean Sea, it added.

The Varshavyanka-class (Project 636.3) is an improved version of the Kilo-class submarines.
