MOSCOW (BNS): The 8th international air show MAKS 2009 that opened in Zhukovsky outside Moscow on Tuesday features huge teams from Russia and their partner countries: 34 countries, more than 700 firms, and more than 700 companies.

“A total of 436 Russian companies submitted applications for participation, 120 enterprises are presenting military products, including 14 subjects of military-technical cooperation. They are putting on display 1,449 exhibits of military products, including 470 full-scale specimens,” the press service of the Russian Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation said, as reported by Itar-Tass.

“Foreign products are displayed at stands of 221 companies from 29 states,” the service specified.

Russia's leading combat aircraft manufacturers Sukhoi and MiG will exhibit their most advanced aircraft, the Su-35 Flanker and the MiG-35 Fulcrum-F multirole fighters at the MAKS-2009 air show.

For the first time exhibits of the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), United Industrial Corporation “Oboronprom,” United Engine Building Corporation and the Helicopters of Russia holding are put on display.

The show also features other aerospace products: unmanned aerial vehicles, helicopters, missiles of different types, air defense systems, and components - from navigation systems to engines.

According to the show’s press release, the main advantage of the MAKS aerospace salon as compared to other international exhibitions is its wide business programme, including international scientific conferences, forums, seminars and panel discussions involving leading local and foreign scientists, designers and engineers in main fields of aerospace science and technologies.

MAKS is primarily a demonstration of advantages and development trends of Russian science and industry in such high-tech areas as aviation, space, missile engineering. It is also a good opportunity to prove high potential of our facilities, to establish new partnerships and make mutually beneficial deals, the release says.

Russia's state arms exporter Rosoboronexport has said military aircraft will continue to dominate the company's foreign sales in 2009, and will total about $2.6 billion.
