Joint army exercise bewteen India, Singapore concludes

JHANSI (PTI): A two-day long joint military exercise by Indian and Singaporean armies -- Bold Kurukshetra -- aimed at validating inter-operability between the two forces ended Saturday in Babina Cantonment area.

"The exercise was based on the concept of employment of mechanised combat command in offensive operations as a part of a combined battle group," defence officials said here.

Singapore Minister Koo Tsai Kee and High Commissioner of Singapore to India Calvin Eu along with a delegation of 10 dignitaries witnessed the bilateral exercise.

Elements of the Singaporean armed forces commenced their training on March 1 in central India under the armoured division of Indian Army, defence officials said.

The training also included professional exchange between the two armies in form of lectures, presentations, cross familiarisation of equipment, tactical discussions and sand model exercises, they said.

For the first time the Singapore forces trained in urban operations amid the special facilities created in the training area, the officials said.

The troops rehearsed fighting in built-up areas with live firing by both while mounted on combat vehicles and in dismounted mode, they said.

Facing a space crunch in their country, the Singaporean Air Force and Army come to train at Indian military facilities.

Their airforce trains at Kalaikunda airbase in West Bengal and the land forces at both Babina and Deolali field firing ranges.
